uh oh

This morning, while daddy and I watched, Jacob crawled over to the entertainment center and began to pull himself up. He got up to his knees and then started to slip. As he slipped one little hand reached out and grabbed the door knob and the other hand reached to brace himself. The momentum of his fall caused the door to which he was holding to open slightly making his position all the more precarious. As I rose to go rescue the poor kiddo, we heard sweetly and clearly, "uh oh!"

favorite number

For the last while Joseph's favorite number has been 48. I'm not sure why this is, but it is. And he has stuck with it. He wanted his bedtime changed from 8 to 7:48. (oooooookay?) He set various alarms on my phone. (11:48 pm, 12:48 am, 1:48 am . .. ugh). Every time he saw a 48 he got excited and exclaimed, "it's 8:48! or 9:48!" (you get the picture.) He was equally disappointed if he missed the 8:48 or 9:48 or . . . . etc.

He just got home from school a few minutes ago and announced:

J1: "mama, I changed my favorite number."
me: "it's not 48 anymore."
J1: "no. now it's 58."
me: "it's 58 now, not 48?"
J1: "yes. And do you want to know when I changed it?"
me: "sure."
J1: "on January, Friday the 21nth." (as in twenty oneth.)

9-month stats

Jacob had his 9-month Well Baby Visit this morning and here are his stats:

height: 29.41 inches = 90th percentile (Joseph was 30 inches at 9 months)
weight: 22 lbs. 15.44 oz. - 85th percentile (Joseph was 23 lbs. 13 oz.) Seriously 1/2 ounce off of 23 pounds. I should have let him finish the bottle before we weighed him! :)
head: 46 cm = 75th percentile

Also, since my official What-He's-Doing-At-9-Months post, Jacob now has 6 teeth (4 on the top, 2 on the bottom) and is pulling himself up to a kneeling position.

He seems to also have a death wish. After being spoiled by his older brother who didn't bother much except for playing cards and DVDs, we are having to baby proof the house in ways we didn't imagine. Jacob makes a beeline for outlets and doorstops. He first tears the rubber tips off the door stop and then unscrews the entire metal stop from the wall. Both items go in his mouth. Most of the door stops have been removed by his parents. When you come to our house, please open the doors carefully. My mother-in-law brought us a bag of outlet covers this weekend. I took a moment yesterday afternoon to put them on all the outlets downstairs. I thought Jacob was happily occupied in the center of the living room between the ottoman and sectional couch. When I returned two minutes later, he had made his way around the entire sectional to the back corner of the living room and was chewing on the lamp cord. The lamp cord was tucked behind the table and nailed to the wall this morning by his daddy.

that coat is for a baby

This morning when I was getting Joseph ready for school we had this conversation:

me: "let's put on your coat."
J1: "I don't want to wear that coat. It's for babies."
me: "Joseph, this is your coat."
J1: "It says right there that it's for a baby!" (pointing to the BabyGap tag.)
me: "well, um, what does it say right underneath it?"
J1: "the number 4."
me: "Right. This is the coat you wear when you're 4."
J1: "But I would like to be 10."

some other pics from Christmas

my beautiful niece

Here some pictures of my beautiful little niece Scout. In the first two, she is wearing the outfit we got her for Christmas. I found the adorable onesie & socks at Janie & Jack and made the matching tutu for her.
On the Sunday after Christmas we had a traditional Swedish Dinner at Jon & Natalie's home. During the evening we also had a special celebration/baby dedication for Scout. Here she is in the family heirloom baptismal gown.

9 months old

(we've been out of town - for 16 days! so this post is a little late)

Jacob turned 9 months old on December 30th. He celebrated his day with his cousin Scout who turned 4 months old on the same day!
At 9 months Jacob is:
Crawling (mostly still army crawling but lots of rocking on all fours and lunging. and boy is he fast!)
Talking - he says "Dada," "Mama," and "hi."
Clapping
Waving
Eating - Jacob is a fabulous eater. In addition to his regular fruit, veggie & rice cereal diet, we have started introducing him to our food. He loves scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, bread, Cheerios and rice.
Laughing - Jacob loves to be tickled and is also quite entertained by his big brother. He belly laughs at "Pat-a-Cake" and "Peek-a-boo."
