The boys woke up before 6 on Christmas morning. "The Christmas Story" had been playing on TV since 10 pm the night before. . . . which means we were wrapping up the 4th showing. Mama & daddy had each woken up at various times during the night laughing at different parts.
The boys excitedly tore into their stockings.
Even Minnie Mae received some special Christmas treats. . . .
and some girlie Christmas jammies.
We moved on to the gifts from our families.
Argggggh - more pirate gear for this little pirate.
And then it started to rain. And then it started to sleet. Then it started to pile up. Then it started to snow. We had a yummy brunch of sausage pinwheels, breakfast casserole and cinnamon rolls. It started to snow more. We all took morning naps followed by a light lunch. Mama put beef & red wine sauce in the crock pot. The snow kept coming.
Our church D-Group had volunteered to take Christmas dinner the Ronald McDonald House at Arkansas Childrens Hospital for all the families with sick babies at the hospital for Christmas. We realized that the road conditions were getting treacherous so, after many phone calls and speeding up the cooking process for all of us, a much smaller delegation made the trip downtown to the hospital. Shortly after their departure our lights began flickering. Shortly after daddy got back home the power went out completely. We lit candles and bundled up. Finally we decided to take refuge with very generous friends. We packed up and braved the couple of miles to their house where we enjoyed a warm dinner and fellowship with their family.
This is their back deck at about 9 pm. The snow was still coming down although it had let up considerably. Our family camped out in their bonus room for the night but discovered in the morning that they had lost power too.
