spring weather

Despite all the upbeat posts about Easter Egg hunts, brunches, smoked turkey, etc., we've had our share of scary spring-time weather. The boys still think it's an adventure to snuggle up in our powder room (the only room in our home with no outside walls/windows) but Mama & Daddy are a little weary from it. I should probably put together a "tornado kit" with diapers and snacks as May is supposed to be the height of tornado season. So far we've been grabbing a blanket to sit on, the boys' blankies and pillows, the laptop for movies and a bottle for Jacob. We keep the weather radio and flashlights handy. Last night was the first time we've lost power (for about 6 hours) and so we also got out the candles. Below is a picture of a tornado that passed within a few miles of our home. We're so thankful that the only thing we lost was the power for a few hours.

Shoes

Sunday afternoon, between scheduled basting of the turkey on the smoker, Daddy hid some Easter eggs in the front yard for Joseph. After the hunt he went back out to check on the turkey and then deposited his flip-flops by the back door. A little later we found that someone else had decided the back door was a good spot for his flip-flops as well.

Easter Turkey

We recently purchased a little something with which to decorate our back yard - a combo gas/charcoal grill with smoker. Christopher has been wanting to try out the smoker so around noon today he loaded it up with applewood chips and this fine piece of poultry.around seven hours later we had this . . . . and it was delicious!!!
During dinner the Nashville Predators beat the Anaheim Ducks which pretty much was the cherry on top of our already wonderful day. We did wish, however, that we had put duck on the menu instead of the turkey.

Easter Morning

I realized several weeks ago that our Easter this year would be a little different since we have started attending the Saturday evening service at our church. I still wanted to dress up our boys in their new Easter duds (thank you Nana & Papa!) for Easter morning so we made reservations for the Sunday morning brunch at YaYa's in the Chenal Promenade. We all dressed up and took some pictures of the boys before brunch. The brunch was wonderful and Joseph especially loved the jazz music.

School Easter Egg Hunt

Joseph's school had their annual Easter Egg hunt yesterday. I sent his filled eggs on Monday and the teachers and parent volunteers "hid" all the eggs yesterday morning. The hunt was originally scheduled to take place at the State Capital but, due to weather, was moved indoors to the fitness center. lining up along the black line to make their run for eggsmadness ensuesJoseph is proud of his haul.

12 month stats

Jacob had his 1-year dr. appointment today. It was rather un-exciting which is how we prefer our dr. visits! He was weighed, measured and checked over from head to toe. He showed off his walking and talking skills gave his Dr. a big hug at the end of the appointment. Our Dr. is graduating from the hospital's residency program before our next visit so this is the last time we'll see him. We also got to meet our new Dr. who will have us on her service for the next couple of years while she's in the residency program. Jacob gave her a big smile and hug too. He was not so friendly with the two nurses who later came in to draw blood and administer shots.

His stats:
Weight = 25 lbs. 9 oz. - just over the 75th percentile
Height = 30.9 inches - just at 75th percentile

His latest verbal accomplishment - adding "no touch" to his vocabulary. He hears it often enough. . . . .

Vegas

After Jacob's birthday party, Mama & Daddy escaped to Vegas for a few days while Papa & Nana watched our sweet boys. Technically Daddy was working at a conference and the paper he presented was awarded "best in show" for his category.

2nd - 1st Birthday Party

We had a 2nd small birthday party for Jacob at his Nana & Papa's house last weekend. Three of his and Joseph's buddies were able to join us along with our family. We had a football theme for our little bruiser.
